A Poem for The Wolfville Farmers Market: An Unfinished Piece of Work

At The Wolfville Farmers Market,

I greet the meat

that met the meat

I eat.

Some days, I feel like meat,

not buying it or eating it—

that I am it.

Other days,

I’m a fruit,

or I might just veg,

loafing

in a milky way.

This is no ordinary place.

I don’t come here to be ordinary;

I come here to be extra-

ordinary.

I come here for community,

extra-

ordinary

community—

and breakfast

and lunch

and supper.

I come here to meander—spiritually.

I come here to be spiced, and pickled, and jammed, and jellied.

I come here to sip and to sniff,

to taste and to touch,

to hear

the latest gossip

and to see

you.

Let’s meet and greet and eat

at The Market.
